Murals of the World (muralsoftheworld.com) and the Mural Registry are run by Justin Wills LLC in Los Angeles, California. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
Each wall page is a record of a mural: where it is, who painted it, when, and whether it is still up. Records start from city lists, open data, festival maps, archives and what people send us. We check them, but some will be wrong or out of date. Tell us and we fix it.
A wall page is not permission to use the mural. Copyright in each mural stays with its artist. A record here, a photo here, or a Registry seal does not clear a wall for filming, photography, products or ads.
The permission form on a wall page sends your request to us, and we pass it to the artist or their group when we have a way to reach them. Any deal is between you and the artist. We can’t promise an artist will answer, and we don’t grant rights on an artist’s behalf unless the artist has told us in writing that we can.
Only send photos you took yourself, and walls that are real. When you send a photo, you keep your copyright. You give Justin Wills LLC a free, worldwide, non-exclusive right to show it on this site, in the Registry, and in posts about the wall on our own channels, with your credit. Ask us and we take it down.
Don’t send photos of people who could be identified without their OK, private property you weren’t allowed into, or anything you don’t have the right to share.
Artists, groups and photographers can claim their pages for free. Only claim a page that is yours. We check claims, and we can remove a claim or a page that we find was claimed by the wrong person.
Some wall pages show posts from artists’ public Instagram accounts. Those posts are loaded from Instagram and stay under Instagram’s terms and the artist’s copyright. Maps come from OpenStreetMap and some street photos from Google Street View, under their own terms.
The facts about each wall are open under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. The details, and what that license doesn’t cover, are on the privacy page. Please don’t scrape the site at a rate that slows it down for other people.
Tours, maps and the wall hunt are for finding public art. Stay on public ground, respect private property and the people who live and work near a wall, and watch for traffic. You visit walls at your own risk.
The site is free and provided as is. We don’t promise it will always be up or that every record is right. To the extent the law allows, Justin Wills LLC isn’t liable for losses that come from using the site or relying on a record, and our total liability to you is limited to $100.
We may update these terms. The date below shows the latest version. These terms are governed by California law, and any dispute goes to the courts in Los Angeles County.
